The Student National Medical Association is the nation's oldest and largest independent, student-run organization focused on the needs and concerns of medical students of color.
Membership includes more than 8,000 medical students, pre-medical students, residents and physicians.
Established in 1964 by medical students from Howard University School of Medicine and Meharry Medical College, SNMA boasts over 40 years of service to underserved communities and medical students.
SNMA is dedicated both to ensuring culturally sensitive medical education and services, as well as increasing the number of African-American, Latino and other students of color entering and completing medical school. read more

June 15, 2009 SNMA Takes a Stance on Health Care Reform
SNMA, along with several professional medical organizations issued a statement this morning in support of achieving health care reform this year, including the creation of a robust, high-quality public health insurance option.
Remembering Mr. George Dines, Sr.
Sadly, SNMA’s Executive-on-Loan, Mr. George Dines, Sr. passed April 15, 2009. He will be greatly missed by the SNMA family and the many people he touched throughout his lifetime.
SNMA Named Community Collaborator
The Institute for the Advancement of Multicultural and Minority Medicine (IAMMM) selected SNMA to participate in a national project to reverse the childhood obesity epidemic funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
