Advocacy

SNMA is honored to be one of the founding members of the Alliance of Black Student Professionals, a partnership between several national organizations whose goal is "to speak with one voice on issues that universally impact the Black student professional population and to advocate for societal change toward the benefit of its communities."

Through efforts coordinated by the Health Policy and Legislative Affairs Committee, SNMA conducts advocacy efforts to address legislative issues that affect medical education, health care delivery, and the health status of underserved communities. Past focus areas include funding for pre-medical recruitment and preparation programs, violence prevention, obesity, universal health care, and affirmative action.

Recently, SNMA has participated in widespread voter registration, letter-writing, and membership education campaigns through its local chapters. Drawing on our strength in numbers and national network, SNMA increasingly employs grassroots efforts to assure the appropriate representation of its members and the inclusion of its mission and vision in the national political discourse.

SNMA has developed Official Policy Statements that reflect the opinions and beliefs of its members and the organization as a whole:
